Edouard Salomon

Founder and Executive Director

Edouard Salomon is a sustainability consultant, nonprofit founder, and community leader with over eight years of experience designing and implementing sustainability systems that integrate environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and social equity. He is the founder of  Independent Sustainability Systems, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable cities, communities, and systems through applied research, technology-enabled solutions, and community-centered strategies.

Mr. Salomon’s passion for sustainability began early in his life. In his youth, his curiosity was shaped by educational programming such as NOVA, Beyond 2000, and Wild America, which sparked a lifelong interest in the natural world and systems thinking. During his teenage years, he translated that curiosity into action through neighborhood cleanups, community gardening, and local civic initiatives. These formative experiences continue to inform his belief that long-term human prosperity depends on respecting ecological limits while designing systems that promote shared well-being.

Professionally, Mr. Salomon has advised organizations ranging from small enterprises to large institutions on sustainability strategy, energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, waste management, and sustainable land use. His work emphasizes practical, data-driven solutions that balance environmental outcomes with economic feasibility and operational realities. He is a strong advocate for the role of technology and innovation in addressing complex environmental and social challenges.

Mr. Salomon also brings more than 24 years of experience in mortgage lending operations, sales, and financial modeling, with deep expertise in residential and multifamily finance, secondary market dynamics, and regulatory compliance. This background allows him to bridge sustainability goals with rigorous financial analysis — an approach central to ISSI’s philosophy that sustainability and economic performance are mutually reinforcing.

In addition to his consulting work, Mr. Salomon has served as Chairman of the Harvard Blue Hill Circle Neighborhood Association since 2017. In this role, he has led strategic planning initiatives, coordinated neighborhood engagement, and acted as a liaison with municipal leadership, including the Office of former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. His leadership has supported community health and wellness initiatives, traffic and safety assessments, and the development of emergency preparedness, disaster response, and resilience planning frameworks.

Mr. Salomon played a key role in the Blue Hill Avenue revitalization efforts, including participation in a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) feasibility study sponsored by the Boston Barr Foundation and administered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His contributions included community impact tracking, field analysis, and collaboration with MIT engineers to support data modeling and performance evaluation. This work contributed valuable insights into sustainable transportation planning and equitable urban mobility.

Mr. Salomon holds a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Capella University, a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Cities and Communities from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Finance, Banking, and Business Administration from Delaware State University. He has completed multiple FEMA emergency management and community preparedness training and remains actively engaged in professional sustainability networks.

Through  Independent Sustainability Systems, Inc., Mr. Salomon remains committed to advancing solutions at the intersection of sustainability, economics, and community resilience — helping organizations and communities build systems that are environmentally responsible, financially sound, and socially inclusive.
